On behalf of the entire team at Young Basile, we extend our heartfelt congratulations and deepest gratitude to Denise M. Glassmeyer, Shareholder, who has retired after a distinguished career and connection to our firm spanning more than four decades.

Denise’s history with the firm began in 1983 when she served as a law clerk for Andy Basile Sr. She went on to become an associate with Basile & Hanlon and was part of the team when Young Basile was founded in 1996. After a period in which she ran her own practice, Denise returned to Young Basile in 2004 and has been an integral part of the firm ever since.

Denise concentrated her practice in patent and trademark prosecution and in patent evaluation and investigation, with a particular focus on chemicals, materials, and life sciences. She managed global IP portfolios for companies ranging from start-ups to large multinational concerns, overseeing complex and contested prosecution across Asia, Europe, and Canada.

Her clients spanned automotive manufacturers and suppliers, semiconductor fabricators, pharmaceutical companies, medical device manufacturers, and consumer products companies.

Denise brought a distinctive technical foundation to her legal work. Before becoming an attorney, she was an organic chemist specializing in quantitative analysis, quality assurance, and environmental monitoring and remediation.

She earned her B.A. in Chemistry from the University of Detroit before going on to earn her J.D. from the University of Detroit School of Law, where she served on the Moot Court Executive Board.

Her professional achievements were widely recognized. Denise was inducted into the Order of the Barristers, received the National Jesuit Honor Society’s Trustees’ Insignis Scholarship, and served as Past Chair and IP Law Section Council Officer of the State Bar of Michigan. She also served as Editor of the Proceedings of the IP Law Section and was active in the American Bar Association’s IP Section, the Children’s Leukemia Foundation of Michigan, Girl Scouts of Metro Detroit, and the State Bar of Michigan Leadership Forum.

While Denise has retired from private practice, she continues to give back to the profession as Director of the Patent Clinic and Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law – a fitting next chapter for someone whose career has always reflected a deep commitment to mentorship and excellence in IP law.

Denise was a valued colleague and a cornerstone of our firm whose knowledge, dedication, and warmth left a lasting impression on all who worked with her. We thank Denise for her extraordinary years of service to Young Basile and wish her continued success in shaping the next generation of IP attorneys.
