Young Basile shareholder Denise Glassmeyer was recognized in Crain’s Detroit Business’ inaugural report Notable Women Lawyers in Michigan. The women honored in the report, “set legal precedents, manage high-profile cases, serve on community boards, win awards and mentor their co-workers.”

Denise is a senior shareholder at Young Basile Hanlon & MacFarlane, P.C. She is the lead attorney for the Life Sciences team and chair of the firm’s diversity committee. Denise has practiced with the firm for nearly her entire career and is widely respected by her colleagues and clients. Denise has successfully represented large, multinational corporations in the management and growth of their patent portfolios. She has also represented numerous high-growth companies in Michigan from the start-up phase through multiple stages of growth.
Denise has been a leading voice in the firm’s efforts to support and promote women IP lawyers, and as a result, Young Basile is one of the top three intellectual property firms in the country in terms of percentage of women equity partners and has more women lawyers in leadership roles than most IP firms today. In addition to her work as Chair of the Diversity Committee, Denise spends a significant amount of time mentoring and assisting many members of the legal team at Young Basile to assist them with their careers as well as skills improvement in their day to day practice of patent law.
Denise is the past chair of the IP Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan. She is also the former editor of Proceedings of the IP Law Section and a member of the Leadership Forum for the state bar. Denise is an adjunct professor at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law and the co-founder of their Intellectual Property Law Clinic. The clinic provides pro bono patent law services to entrepreneurs and startup companies in Michigan, helping them to obtain intellectual property protection for their important assets.
In addition to her professional endeavors, Denise is a loyal supporter and a past member of the Board of Directors of the Children’s Leukemia Foundation of Michigan. Her daughter is a cancer survivor of many years and had a difficult course with cancer as a child. Denise is also a strong supporter of the Beaumont Foundation and the Charles A. Main Pediatric Cancer Survivor Scholarship Fund. The fund provides scholarships to pediatric cancer survivors going to any post-secondary school and funds the Beaumont Hospital pediatric cancer late effects clinic.
