TROY, MI, May 2, 2017 – Troy, Michigan-based intellectual property and complex commercial litigation law firm Young Basile Hanlon & MacFarlane, P.C. announced today that it is expanding its national presence with the addition of John Demarco in Houston, Texas. Demarco joins the firm after practicing at Haynes and Boone, one of The American Lawyer’s top 100 law firms.

Mr. Demarco focuses on patent and trademark counseling, licensing, litigation, and prosecution. He helps companies defend against patent assertions, enforce/license intellectual property, design around patents, resolve complex patent prosecution issues, strategize international commercial activity to minimize infringement exposure, and acquire and develop technology and intellectual property.
Mr. Demarco has litigated patent, copyright, trademark, trade secret, antitrust, false advertising and contract issues in courts in the U.S, Japan and Germany, as well as the U.S. International Trade Commission. Mr. Demarco’s technical experience is in electronics, software, optics, mechanics and chemicals, including medical devices and imaging; robotics; automotive components; pharmaceuticals; petrochemicals; oil and gas drilling and flow systems; distributed computing; semiconductor component fabrication; and digital reading, storage, display, printing and camera devices.
Mr. Demarco received his Juris Doctor from Case Western Reserve University School of Law and Bachelor of Science degrees in Engineering Physics and German from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He is licensed to practice in Texas, Ohio and the District of Columbia and in the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
