Ryan advises and represents innovative technology companies, with a focus on patent portfolio development, intellectual property litigation, and transactions. Ryan’s wide ranging technology background enables him to tackle the most complex technical challenges and provide impactful advice and representation. Representative areas include video compression and transport, database and data processing, cloud computing, semiconductors, automotive, networking, and industrial controls. Ryan handles licensing discussions and analysis on behalf of both licensors and licensees, including those involving standards essential and FRAND issues, providing opinions of non-infringement and invalidity. Ryan also leverages prosecution and licensing expertise to advise in litigation before various courts and tribunals (e.g, federal district courts, the ITC, the PTAB, and in foreign jurisdictions). Ryan also helps early and late stage startups with their general legal matters as outside general counsel and advises clients on a range of areas (e.g., data privacy, data breach response and FTC investigations, trademarks, domain names, and commercial and employment litigation).

Industry Experience

Prior to joining Young Basile, Mr. McCleary managed the information technology and human resources functions at a Tier 1 automotive supplier. Before that, he held engineering roles at various Tier 1 automotive suppliers and clerked at a major automotive manufacturer. His industry experience is multi-disciplinary and includes software architecture, software programming, database design, electronic data interchange, wire harness design, industrial controls networks, embedded software programming, embedded computer design, automotive quality, logistics and inventory control.
