Mr. O’Loughlin has a diverse practice focused on IP law including the strategic counseling, portfolio management, preparation, prosecution, assertions, enforcement and litigation of patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. In addition, he supports IP litigation and technology transactions (e.g., licensing, acquisition, and monetization of assets).

Mr. O’Loughlin supports leading domestic and international clients ranging from Fortune 100 companies to startups. He has drafted and prosecuted thousands of patent and trademark applications across a wide range of cutting-edge technologies including software, ML/AI, video processing, autonomous technology, telecommunications, navigation, precision agriculture, healthtech, medical devices and wearable devices. Mr. O’Loughlin has expertise regarding software patentability considering Alice and has presented to various audiences regarding software patent prosecution practice.
Prior to joining Young Basile, Mr. O’Loughlin worked in private practice representing clients with a focus on collaborating with clients to navigate intellectual property opportunities and risks, considering his clients’ objectives regarding innovation, commercialization, and competition. His experience includes performing freedom-to-operate investigations, risk assessment, design-around counseling, due diligence for mergers & acquisitions, preparing opinions of counsel, patent litigation strategy development, and negotiating and drafting intellectual property transactional agreements.
