Mr. Maurer represents clients in all aspects of intellectual property law. Mr. Maurer has prepared and successfully prosecuted numerous patent applications to granted patents and has counseled clients on issues relating to infringement, invalidity, clearance, and freedom-to-operate. In addition, Mr. Maurer has experience in trademark matters, intellectual property licensing, and patent portfolio management.

Industry Experience

Prior to entering the legal profession, Mr. Maurer worked as an engineer for a Tier 1 automotive supplier in the field of vehicle safety restraints. Mr. Maurer also worked for an engineering firm where he designed custom engineering test equipment.

Representative Clients

Mr. Maurer has assisted clients in relation to a wide variety of mechanical and electro-mechanical technologies. Mr. Maurer has extensive experience in automotive technologies, including axles, four-wheel drive and all-wheel drive systems, propulsion systems, battery and energy consumption technology, turbochargers, vehicle seats, pedal assemblies, windows, and weather seals. In the medical industry, Mr. Maurer has experience in surgical instruments, sterilization, hospital beds and stretchers, and surgical robotics. In addition, Mr. Maurer has assisted clients in technologies relating to 3D printing, building systems, manufacturing, the outdoor industry, firearms, and fashion.

Professional Activities

Mr. Maurer is a member of the State Bar of Michigan. Mr. Maurer has presented to various groups on multiple aspects of intellectual property law. He has spoken at universities and law schools about professional opportunities in intellectual property. He has also mentored numerous law students and new associates in patent preparation and prosecution.
