TROY, MI, November 6, 2018 – Troy, Michigan-based intellectual property law firm Young Basile Hanlon & MacFarlane, P.C. announced today that it hired Elliott Mason as the latest addition to its Boston office.

Dr. Mason is a registered patent agent. His practice focuses on patent prosecution in the areas of electrical engineering and computer science and includes various technology areas in electrical engineering, telecommunications and optics. Dr. Mason has drafted and prosecuted patent applications in numerous areas including optics – interferometry, spectroscopy, quantum devices, intraocular lenses; computer architecture – multicore processor architecture, wireless chip design; networks and networking protocols – wireless, optical, powerline; medical devices – optical and acoustic imaging; signal processing – video compression, voice recognition; and software, including database management systems.

Dr. Mason’s research experience included a Ph.D. thesis under Dr. N.C. Wong in experimental nonlinear optics and quantum communications.  He worked as a Postdoctoral Associate for the MIT Research Laboratory of Electronics (2002-2003) on free-space optical communications and as a research assistant at the MIT Lincoln Laboratory (1996-2001) on periodically-poled nonlinear materials. His graduate work included a computer science minor in distributed algorithms and networks. He previously worked with O&R Patent Law and Fish & Richardson, P.C.

Dr. Mason received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 1994, his Master of Science in Electrical in 1996 and his Ph.D. in 2002, all from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
