Mr. Pourmirzaie has a diverse practice focused on IP law including the strategic counseling, portfolio management, preparation, prosecution, assertions, enforcement and litigation of patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets and open source software. In addition, he supports technology transactions (e.g., licensing, acquisition and monetization of assets), corporate startup law (e.g., incorporations, employment agreements and financings), and product counseling (e.g., compliance, data privacy / GDPR, product development agreements, product packaging and go-to-market strategies).
Mr. Pourmirzaie supports leading domestic and international clients ranging from Fortune 100 companies and venture-backed startups to solo inventors and solopreneurs. He has drafted and prosecuted thousands of patent and trademark applications across a wide range of cutting-edge technologies including software, ML/AI, autonomous technology, telecommunications, semiconductors, storage devices, MEMS, IoT, healthtech, medical devices and wearable devices. He has led numerous technology transactions including the acquisition of a 100+ asset patent portfolio to the licensing of groundbreaking IP from university tech transfer offices. He has also provided in-house patent and product counsel under secondment to leading consumer hardware and enterprise hardware product focused companies. Prior to joining Young Basile, Mr. Pourmirzaie was an attorney for Sawyer Law Group, P.C., a nationally recognized IP boutique firm based in Palo Alto, CA supporting world-renowned IP innovators such as IBM.
Industry Experience
Mr. Pourmirzaie is a serial entrepreneur having previously co-founded two venture-backed startups, one in the software space and another in the implantable medical device space that successfully received FDA 510(k) clearance and conducted human clinical trials. In addition, he has helped build two successful consumer packaged goods (CPG) focused ecommerce companies. He serves as a startup advisor to numerous emerging companies associated with leading incubators including Y Combinator, Plug & Play Tech Center, Alchemist, Rock Health, Highway1, Harvard i-lab and Wharton VIP. Mr. Pourmirzaie takes pride in his ability to leverage this industry experience to provide counsel to his clients that is rooted in real-world knowledge and first-hand experiences.
